Renovated Dormitory for Internally Displaced Persons Opens in Kamianske

18/10/2025

In Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region, a former dormitory has been renovated to provide temporary housing for internally displaced persons. The renovation and furnishing were funded from the local budget, an international grant program, and contributions from the civil society sector. The total cost of the project exceeded 80 million hryvnias.

During the opening of the temporary housing facility, the Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity, Denys Uliutin, emphasized that housing for internally displaced persons remains the most pressing issue.

“There are more than four million internally displaced persons in Ukraine. The state is developing numerous tools to address the housing needs of people who have lost their homes. One of these mechanisms is a government subvention for the renovation and improvement of temporary housing facilities. This kind of initiative — where local authorities, international donors, and a responsible civil society work together to provide housing for IDPs — should serve as an example for every community,” said Denys Uliutin, Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity.

All construction and renovation works at the dormitory have been completed, and the facility has been officially commissioned. It is one of the largest housing recovery projects for internally displaced persons in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The dormitory is designed to accommodate 240 residents and is fully equipped for comfortable living — with modern kitchens, showers, laundry rooms, a children’s playroom, a common leisure area, as well as a landscaped area and playground. The humanitarian mission “Proliska” has fully furnished the dormitory with furniture, household appliances, and essential items.

The project was implemented under the IFC Municipal Grant Program “Energy Efficiency and Crisis Response in Ukraine”, supported by the European Union.
