To improve the work of specialized support services for domestic violence victims, the Ministry of Social Policy initiated a subvention program. These funds were used to purchase vehicles for mobile teams providing social-psychological assistance and combating domestic violence. Ninety-four communities acquired new vehicles adapted for people with disabilities, with the majority located near frontline areas.
In Mykolaiv region, twelve communities enhanced accessibility to social services thanks to state subventions. Kamyianomostivska, Vilnozaporizka, and Novobuzka communities shared their experiences using the new vehicles.
The mobile team of Vilnozaporizka rural territorial community conducted 46 field visits over six months, providing 174 services to 128 individuals, including 3 people with disabilities.
One such case involved a mother of a four-year-old boy who suffered violence from a cohabitant. Police and the mobile assistance team arrived immediately. Specialists determined the abuse had been systematic – starting as psychological before escalating to physical violence – severely impacting both mother and child's mental state.
Police issued an immediate restraining order against the perpetrator, while the equipped vehicle transported the victims to safety. After providing emergency medical and psychological support, the team took them to a shelter for violence survivors. Notably, the family lived in a remote part of the community, making the vehicle essential for rapid response.
Novobuzka city council’s mobile team conducted 58 field visits, delivering 145 services to 29 people, including 5 with disabilities.
In one urgent case, a 89-year-old mother endured systematic abuse from her son, who demanded her pension and forced her to borrow from neighbors – resorting to physical violence when she refused. The mobile team involved police to help file a report, then stabilized the woman’s emotional state and provided legal protection services. She is now in a safe location.
Kamyianomostivska rural council’s mobile team performed 48 field visits, offering 156 services to 68 individuals, including 6 with disabilities.
They responded to a report about a large family where the mother abused her young children. The team discovered the children had been left with a stranger after their father’s death. The specialists provided psycho-emotional support to the children (aged 3, 5, and 6) and arranged temporary shelter through social services. Following a court decision to terminate parental rights, the children were placed in a foster family for eventual adoption.
Each resolved case represents protection for victims of domestic violence. That’s why the Ministry of Social Policy continues strengthening the system for responding to and preventing violence.
