During a working visit to the Kharkiv region, the team of the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine visited an evacuation center based at the ‘Obdarovanist’ Lyceum, a municipal institution.

Since the center began operating in 2022, more than 80,000 people have received assistance. Due to the intensification of hostilities, the center is currently registering between 80 and 150 people every day. Here, individuals are registered, provided with the necessary documents, they also can receive primary medical, psychological, and humanitarian assistance.

The Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine is currently shaping policies to help internally displaced persons reintegrate into new homes and to encourage their participation in the economic life of the communities.

The Ministry pays special attention to supporting older internally displaced persons, persons with disabilities, and persons with limited mobility.

From now on, a medical component has been added to the supported living service, enabling people who have been evacuated to have an opportunity to recover under medical supervision for up to 30 days in healthcare facilities. In addition, a separate accommodation service is available for persons with limited mobility. This service will be funded from the state budget.

"It is important for the state to understand the entire pathway of internally displaced persons in order to streamline this process as quickly as possible and make it more comfortable for people. The Ministry and the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration will coordinate further actions to support IDPs and identify urgent needs,” said Tetiana Kiriienko, Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine.

Following the visit to the Center, agreements were reached in cooperation with representatives of the international humanitarian organization INTERSOS in the area of supporting internally displaced persons. In particular, international partners will assist with repair works and the arrangement of additional spaces in transit centers and places of temporary residence.

Tetiana Kiriienko expressed her gratitude to partners for their willingness to help.

Representatives of INTERSOS noted that they are already carrying out repair works and preparing accommodation sites for internally displaced persons for the winter season.

The team of the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine also visited a place of temporary accommodation for internally displaced persons located at the Kharkiv Professional Pedagogical College.

Currently, 252 people live there, including 34 children, 75 older persons, and three people with limited mobility.

As a reminder, the state has allocated UAH 1 billion in a subvention to fund repairs and the outfitting of temporary housing for internally displaced persons.
