Liudmyla Shemelynets, the First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine participated in the session of the Steering Committee of the Council of Europe Project “Protecting the rights of Ukrainian children and ensuring child-friendly justice”.

She expressed her gratitude for strategic partnership and support in implementing important changes in the field of child rights protection.

“We have already conducted training sessions for more than 700 social workers who support children, including children deprived of parental care, children with disabilities and care leavers. Guides on psychological support have also been prepared, which have become a practical tool for working with children. After all, it is important not only to solve problems in a child's life but also to prevent them from arising”, she noted.

The First Deputy Minister emphasized that the state's current priority is transitioning children to forms of care that are as close to family-based care as possible, as well as eliminating institutional facilities, where children are limited in their opportunities and rights.

Liudmyla Shemelynets highlighted children's issues under martial law, “Our children are experiencing traumatic experiences, including deportations, forcible transfers of children, and the loss of parents and homes”.

Liudmyla Shemelynets expressed her gratitude to international partners for their solidarity and the exchange of experience, which helps Ukraine create a favourable environment for children.

“We are creating the best possible conditions for children to grow up to be socially active and happy citizens of Ukraine,” she concluded.
