Unity Hub Ukraine Officially Opens in Prague

On September 11, the Unity Hub Ukraine officially opened in Prague. It operates out of the Ukrainian Consultation and Community Centre, which is currently celebrating its first anniversary. This is the third Unity Hub for Ukrainians in Europe, following previous locations in Berlin and Stockholm.

The Joint Declaration to establish a Unity Hub in Czechia was signed in Prague on May 5, 2025, during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to the Czech Republic.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ilona Havronska, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity; Ylva Johansson, Special Envoy for Ukrainians in the EU; and Vasyl Zvarych, Ukraine's Ambassador to the Czech Republic. Representatives from the Czech Ministry of the Interior, the Agency of National Unity, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), and the local Ukrainian community were also in attendance.

In her opening remarks, Havronska noted that Czechia is one of the top three EU countries hosting the largest number of Ukrainians under temporary protection. Furthermore, Czechia ranks first in the EU for the highest per capita number of protected individuals. According to recent Eurostat data, nearly 400,000 of the 4.4 million Ukrainians currently under temporary protection across the EU reside in Czechia.

"Today, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians live in Czechia. Many of them work, study, and raise their children here," said Havronska. "For Ukraine, it is vital that people can maintain their connection with their home country, regardless of where they live today or what their future plans may be. The Unity Hub in Prague should serve as another point of connection—a place where people can access necessary information, engage with the Ukrainian community, learn about opportunities back home, and simply feel closer to Ukraine."

For her part, Ylva Johansson, Special Envoy for Ukrainians in the EU, emphasized that the Unity Hubs and the broader Ukrainian Unity Network help build a "human bridge" between Ukraine, the European Union, and Ukrainians abroad.

"Of course, Ukrainians need protection. But at the same time, they possess immense energy, endless ideas, creativity, and the potential to shape and build the future," Johansson stressed. "This is exactly the direction we need to take moving forward—creating more opportunities for Ukrainians to influence their own future and our shared future, as well as the future of Ukraine and its recovery. The Unity Hub in Prague, like the entire Unity Network, plays a crucial role in this."

At Unity Hub Prague, Ukrainians can receive consultations and support regarding residency and integration in Czechia, as well as guidance on voluntary return and reintegration in Ukraine. The Hub also provides information on Ukrainian government services, such as pension matters, military registration, and obtaining electronic signatures.

Moving forward, Unity Hub Prague will continue to evolve as a dedicated space for Czechia's Ukrainian community. It will host informational, cultural, and educational events, alongside networking activities and community initiatives designed to strengthen the community and preserve its ties to Ukraine.
