Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, Denys Uliutin, met with Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine. The parties discussed developing a strategic partnership in the social sector.
The Ukrainian side proposed that Japan become a strategic partner in the flagship area of “Active Longevity”. In particular, this includes the development of barrier-free infrastructure, support in the provision of assistive rehabilitation devices, the creation of inclusive routes, and the active integration of older persons into social life.
“Ukraine is one of the 30 countries in the world with the oldest population. Nearly 22% of Ukrainians are aged 65 and over. That is why the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity is developing the flagship “Active Longevity” initiative, focused on keeping older people active, healthy, and integrated into social life. We highly value Japan's experience in this area and are sincerely interested in building a strategic partnership,” Denys Uliutin said.
In addition, the parties focused on the topic of housing programs for IDPs. Japanese companies have experience in implementing housing projects for displaced persons in Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro.
Among other priorities, the Ministry is interested in deepening cooperation with Japan in the field of modern rehabilitation technologies and training of specialists. The Ministry proposed developing academic exchange programmes to enhance the qualifications of Ukrainian rehabilitation specialists and prosthetists.
The parties also discussed the possibility of investing in the development of rehabilitation facilities under the Ministry's management.
Ambassador Masashi Nakagome emphasized Japan’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Ukraine in the social sector. He underlined that Japan values Ukraine’s experience in developing solutions in response to the large-scale challenges the country is currently facing and expressed readiness to further promote bilateral cooperation.
