The purpose of the Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy delegation’s visit to Sweden is to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of social protection, particularly in child rights protection, including the study of the Barnahus model, the development of family-based care, as well as principles of active aging and Sweden’s prosthetics system.
As part of the visit, meetings are scheduled with representatives of the Swedish government, international foundations, and social sector institutions, as well as participation in high-level events.
Today, on October 8, Minister Denys Uliutin and First Deputy Minister Liudmyla Shemelynets met with representatives of the World Childhood Foundation, established by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden with the mission to protect children’s rights and improve the lives of vulnerable and exploited children at risk around the world.
The Foundation fulfills its mission through partnerships with civil society organizations, companies, and funds, investing in innovative solutions and raising awareness of violence against children, guided by the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
“Family is the only environment for a child’s harmonious development, which is why Ukraine aims to transition from institutional care to family-based child-rearing fully. Our country has begun implementing the European Child Guarantee in close cooperation with international partners, including Sweden. The goal is to strengthen the protection of children from violence, develop social services for children with disabilities, and support the professional development of social workers,” said Denys Uliutin, Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine.
He also expressed gratitude to Sweden for its steadfast support of Ukraine from the very first days of the full-scale war, particularly in reforming the social protection system and safeguarding children’s rights.
Earlier, First Deputy Minister Liudmyla Shemelynets met in Kyiv with representatives of the World Childhood Foundation. The parties discussed practical opportunities for cooperation in implementing the Child Guarantee — including Save the Children’s expert support in developing the National Action Plan and ways the Foundation could further strengthen the Ministry’s efforts in this area.
