About social support

Social support is assistance provided to a person who finds themselves in difficult life circumstances. This assistance may be material (for example, various types of subsidies, benefits, and local social protection programs envisioned by law), or it may take the form of social services, psychological support, and counseling. The primary goal of social support is to assist those who, for various reasons, cannot independently meet their basic needs—such as individuals who have lost their jobs, have disabilities or serious illnesses, or face other challenges.

The type, form, and amount of social support are determined on an individual basis for each person and depend on the specifics of their situation.

Social support can be provided both at the state level (pensions, unemployment benefits, various types of financial aid) and by non-governmental organizations (charitable foundations, community initiatives). Different forms of social support are aimed at ensuring a minimum standard of living and safeguarding against poverty and social isolation.

If you find yourself in a difficult life situation or need additional support, the state offers a fairly wide range of tools to help you.
