Government Cleansing
The Ministry of Social Policy takes measures to cleanse the government in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Government Cleansing”, which provides for checking how the persons who hold or claim public offices respect the bans prescribed by the laws. These measures are aimed at ensuring integrity, transparency and trust in the public authorities.
What is government cleansing?
Government cleansing is the process of checking reliability of data on bans under paragraphs 3 and 4 of Article 1 of the Law of Ukraine “On Government Cleansing”. This check is carried out to make sure that the public officers meet the integrity criteria and are not covered by the restrictions set by the Law.
How is the check conducted?
The check procedure and the list of the responsible authorities are approved by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 563 of 16 October “Certain Matters of the Implementation of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Government Cleansing’”.
Purpose of government cleansing
The purpose of this checks is to prevent the persons who might abuse their powers for personal interests or fail to meet the integrity requirements from getting public offices. Owing to the government cleansing, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine ensures transparency and openness of operations of state institutions, which increases the level of citizens’ trust in the civil service.
Information for citizens
Findings of checks and details of government cleansing are made public in accordance with the requirements of the Law, which ensures citizens’ access to relevant information and possibility of control over the process. In addition, the Ministry of Social Affairs provides information materials and explanations on government cleansing mechanisms so that citizens will be able to understand the process better.
Government cleansing is an important step on the path to efficient, transparent and integral public administration in Ukraine.
